WGI Code of Conduct | Training Video Production

Some videos have to do serious work, and this one carries real weight: it communicates the policies that protect tens of thousands of young performers. We produced this training video for WGI Sport of the Arts — the governing body of the marching arts since 1977 — to present the organization's Code of Conduct, covering everything from participant safety and harassment policy to reporting procedures and whistleblower protection.

Compliance content fails when it feels like a checkbox. We built this piece to be watched, not just played: clear structure, a tone that takes its audience seriously, and pacing that carries viewers through dense policy material. It reflects a long working relationship we've had with WGI, covering both their events and their organizational communications.

Production Challenge

A Code of Conduct video is mostly words on a page, so the real challenge is making policy feel human and keeping it watchable end to end. We filmed at WGI's headquarters and at UD Arena, working with their office staff in both locations. For the on-camera segment with the CEO, we used a lighting setup we were excited about and deliberately kept the shot wide to bring in a striking piece of art in their conference room — giving an otherwise standard talking-head a real sense of place. And to carry the full length of the piece, we drew on a deep well of archival WGI footage, weaving years of performances and events behind the policy narration so the video never felt like it was just reading rules at you.

Since 1977, WGI Sport of the Arts has provided opportunities to young people and been a leader in the marching arts.

We are proud of our commitment to uphold the highest standards of quality, integrity, excellence, safety, legal compliance, and respect for human rights. This is in our DNA, and these values play a vital role in our success as an organization. We must challenge ourselves to create a positive learning environment so that WGI is not only a great place for all, it's the right place for all.

Our Code of Conduct is our moral compass. It covers the legal and ethical aspects of WGI and the way our organization responds in every situation. It should be seen as a beacon that guides us all in the right direction. It is what binds us, a contract that we all sign for our benefit and for the benefit of our participants, employees, contractors, instructional and administrative staff, circuit partners, and volunteers. All parties participating in any of our sanctioned events must accept and act under the policies and procedures outlined in the Code of Conduct, and are not only expected to uphold these policies but remind others of them when necessary.

The WGI Code of Conduct.

Alcohol and controlled substances. Everyone participating in WGI has the right to participate in an environment free of alcohol and controlled substances. Participants are not to possess, distribute, or be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.

Sexual misconduct. WGI strictly prohibits all conduct which could pose a threat to the safety of our participants. We define sexual misconduct as any misconduct of a sexual nature or potentially classifiable as a sex offense under applicable law, any misconduct in which actual or suggested sexual relations is an element, any harassing conduct pertaining to an individual's sex, gender, sexual orientation, or gender expression, any conduct involving harm to a minor. If anyone receives information of any kind, and if the suggested misconduct meets any of these criteria, then it should be reported immediately.

Harassment. Behavior that may be considered inappropriate or may be deemed as harassment is not allowed and refers to a full spectrum of offensive behavior that can be found to be threatening or offensive, including verbal abuse, unwanted physical contact, or any other behavior that is not socially acceptable in a youth environment.

Social networking. WGI respects the right to use social networking sites and does not wish to discourage from self-publishing or self-expression. Our policies prohibit the use of social media to post or display comments that are vulgar, obscene, threatening, intimidating, harassing, or hostile on platforms controlled by WGI.

General conduct. Our reputation depends on the conduct of all parties involved in WGI. Good manners, courtesy, and common sense are generally all that is required to ensure appropriate conduct and behavior. Conduct or language that could be perceived by a reasonable person as being rude, inappropriate, abusive, disorderly, derogatory, immoral, or threatening will not be tolerated. Disruptive or rude behavior from participants, staff, or volunteers of one group towards another also will not be tolerated.

Reporting violations. Our aim is to be a transparent governing body. It is our responsibility to make sure that both the content and the spirit of this code are communicated, understood, and acted upon, and to encourage anyone to report any behavior that may breach the code. If you discover or suspect any activity that may violate the Code of Conduct, it is your responsibility to report it. You should consult a parent, director, or instructor of your group, or you may report directly to WGI via our online participant protection reporting form. All cases are handled with the utmost integrity and confidentiality, and you have the option to remain anonymous.

Anti-retaliation and whistleblower policy. In an effort to protect all interested parties and address our commitment to integrity and ethical behavior, WGI will not tolerate any retaliation against anyone who makes a good faith report or threatens to make a good faith report regarding WGI, another organization, or an individual whose suspected violation of the law or other violation endangers the health or
