LG&E and KU Energy Saver Squad | Branded Video Series

Comedy is hard, and comedy inside a corporate wrapper is harder — which is exactly why I'm proud of this one. We produced the Energy Saver Squad series for LG&E and KU through our agency partner Scoppechio: a branded run of energy-efficiency spots that actually make people smile while they learn how to lower their power bill. The premise lets us hang real, useful tips on a light comedic frame, with our host walking viewers through the season's savings and the visual gags doing the heavy lifting between them.

The trick with a piece like this is that the information has to land and the joke has to land, and neither can step on the other. A draft stopper is "much easier to work with than these guys" — and then we let the picture finish the punchline. That balance, useful and genuinely funny, is what makes branded comedy work, and it only happens with tight scripting, confident on-camera talent, and direction that keeps the timing honest.

Production Challenge

Directing paid talent to be funny on cue is its own discipline. Corporate comedy fails when it tries too hard or undercuts the message, so our job was to find the line where the humor serves the brand instead of distracting from it. We worked the visual gags, the pacing, and the performances until the energy-saving tips stayed clear and the comedy felt effortless — a series that an LG&E and KU customer would choose to watch rather than skip.

Hi, I'm Natasha Collins with LG&E and KU, here again with the Energy Saver Squad. Warm weather will be here before we know it, so as you're spring cleaning, here are some ways to get a head start on the season.

Draft stoppers are an inexpensive way to seal up leaky doors and windows. They're also much easier to work with than these guys.

Installing a programmable thermostat allows you to automatically adjust the temperature in your home when you're asleep or away. Program your thermostat and stick with those settings.

Want to stay cool in the spring without cranking up your AC? Switch your ceiling fan to blow air downward to create a really nice breeze.

Another simple tip: install aerators on your faucets and use low-flow shower heads. They'll help you wring the most out of your energy dollar.

Finally, sign up online for our demand conservation program. It's an easy way to earn up to $20 in energy bill credits every summer.

So make way for spring. And for more great ways to save, click on this video to see our full range of energy efficiency programs. Thanks for watching.
