Lifepoint Rehabilitation Palomar | Healthcare Video Production

When two major health systems open a new facility together, the story is the partnership as much as the building. We produced this film for Lifepoint Rehabilitation to mark the opening of a comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation hospital — a joint venture between Palomar Health, the largest public health district in California, and Lifepoint, bringing acute inpatient rehab to San Diego's North County.

We flew out to Southern California to capture the facility, the clinical team, and the leadership voices on both sides of the partnership — from the advanced rehab gym technology to a return-to-home rate that has run above the national benchmark for a decade. We made the trip count: a full week out west, flying out Monday and home Friday, filming Palomar alongside Adam's Story (johnflowerproductions.com/examples/kindred-hospital-adams-story) and other work across the region. That's how a lot of our healthcare work goes — our Lifepoint, Kindred, and ScionHealth projects tend to run together, and over the years we've filmed at dozens of their hospitals and rehab facilities across the country.

Production Challenge

Filming inside a working hospital is its own discipline. These buildings never stop — patients are in treatment, staff are on the floor, and the cameras have to move through all of it without getting in the way of real care. We've done it before, during, and after Covid, and it almost always means long days: executive interviews, physician and clinician interviews, patient stories, b-roll of the space and the technology, and often a photography pass on top of the video. Pulling that off in a live environment, and getting it right every time, is exactly what these systems keep bringing us back for.

Video Transcript:

This amazing facility was built as a joint venture between Palomar Health and LifePoint Rehabilitation as really an opportunity to gift to our community the services of a comprehensive inpatient rehab facility in the North County of San Diego. We wouldn't be in the situation we're in — with this beautiful, modern, new, attractive rehab facility — if it weren't for the partnership between LifePoint and Palomar Health.

LifePoint's ability to partner with Palomar and bring acute inpatient rehabilitation to Southern California has dramatically improved the health and wellness of this entire community. We chose LifePoint Rehabilitation because our core values match the core values of LifePoint. What was important is that we wanted someone who had compassion for patients, who listened to what the needs were in our community, who really partnered with us. We really had a vision for providing upper San Diego with a comprehensive strategy to rehabilitation.

We are an intensive rehabilitation program. Our patients get three hours of therapy a day, at least five days a week, and we work on what matters to them. We work on getting them home.

We're the largest public health district in the state of California, so we had to bring to the table a partner who was just as invested about serving our community and had the capability to bring bricks and mortar, bring capital and technology, and give our community the chance they deserved in having inpatient rehab.

I am so proud to be part of a company that's not only making it possible and accessible for a community to have this level of care, but also setting the standard for this level of care in the community — providing resources so we can provide the best to our patients, training us and keeping us accountable to make sure we do that, and then sharing in the successes.

To be located on a campus 1,000 yards away from a trauma center has been really a great experience for our patients. When they leave the hospital, they're able to come right over to the rehabilitation institute, and it gives them nothing but hope.
